Assistant Executive Director, Director of Physical Therapy, Physical Therapist
kkidd@midlandchildrens.org

Kristal Kidd grew up in Odessa and did her undergrad at Odessa College, Texas Tech. She later went on to PT school at UTEP in El Paso, Texas.

Her last affiliation for PT school was in Lubbock, Texas, where the only affiliation open at that time was in pediatrics. At first, she was not that interested in pediatrics but soon fell in love with the kids and families. From that moment on, she realized that she has a heart for serving kids. It led to her first job, which led her to MCRC when upon moving to Midland.

She has an amazing husband, Cody and three awesome kids: Jaycee, Abbey and Jaxson. They also have one very anti-social dog, Chloe who they love dearly!

Outside of work Kristal runs a volunteer carpool for the Kidd kids and their friends. She loves watching volleyball, baseball, and anything her kids participate in. When she has down time, she likes to go camping or cook delicious meals with her husband. Her passion is living daily according to His purpose which the Kidd kid carpool interrupts on occasion.

“I love MCRC. It is an amazing place! My favorite part of my job is the people, the ones we serve AND the ones I serve with. “

Kelsey Kusnerik, P.T., D.P.T.

Physical Therapist

Born and raised in Galveston, Texas. Kelsey came to Midland in April of 2018 to do her clinical rotation as a Physical Therapy student at MCRC, and then officially moved to Midland in August.

"I have known that I wanted to be a physical therapist since I was 16," said Kelsey. "When I was in high school, I was on the drill team and got hurt while dancing. I had to go to physical therapy to rehabilitate my knee. While I was there, I saw how the PTs were helping many other people return to their dreams of walking with their grand-kids and being able to play catch with their children, I wanted to be able to make others’ dreams come true too."

Specifically, Kelsey wanted to do pediatrics because of an article she read in undergrad about a 5-year-old boy with cerebral palsy who was told he would never be able to walk. With the help of physical therapy, he was able to do just that. "I wanted to be a pediatric physical therapist so that I would be able to help kids achieve the impossible," said Kelsey.

In my free time, Kelsey likes to scrapbook, watch Netflix, and play with her dog, Luna.

Since the age of 13, Laura has worked with and trained horses both at home and with various organizations, including working at Sky Ranch in Van, Texas as a wrangler for several years. After gladly accepting the position, Laura became a P.A.T.H. certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor. She enjoys watching the kids progress with their therapies on horseback and helping children become independent riders through the Therapeutic Riding program as well as being responsible for maintaining the Equine Program with the other Equine team members. Her favorite part of MCRC is getting to see the love, interaction and bonding between the children and the horses.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys cooking, working out, practicing martial arts, and spending as much time as possible with her husband, their 16 month old daughter, Sophie, and their 3 dogs.

Gwen Anderson

Equine Therapy Assistant
ganderson@midlandchildrens.org

The Equine program at MCRC is a natural fit for Gwen as she has spent most her life taking care of kids and animals. She began with MCRC, as a horse leader and was soon inspired to become a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor.

Raised in Minnesota, with six brothers and sisters, many horses, dogs, and other pets, Gwen supported her animal obsession by babysitting and working at the local riding stable.

She married Randall, her high school sweetheart. His education and career as a geologist took them through Lincoln NE, Norman OK, Abilene TX, and to Midland. Gwen has worked as a veterinary assistant, animal control dispatcher, stable manager, and dog obedience instructor. She volunteered extensively while raising their children, Mary and Brian.

Randall and Gwen enjoy taking care of their house, yard, two grandsons, two dogs, two cats, one horse and a fishpond. Randy likes to play guitar, golf and is a talented handyman. He often fixes or builds obstacles for our arena. Gwen likes to ride her horse, read, search for treasures at estate sales, and practice amateur landscaping.

“I love working with the wonderful staff, families and volunteers at MCRC. I am especially impressed with and proud of our equine program. My pride and joy comes from sharing the love of horses with our students, and when they discover that they can control a giant animal ‘all by myself ‘ ”.

Alisha Clark

Equine Assistant
aclark@midlandchildrens.org

Alisha's family has been in the horse business her entire life. She grew up around friends and family who bred and raised horses and often rode horses through trails or rode for fun. In 2000, she moved to Ft. Worth where she later would go back to school to earn her associates degree. While attending college, she logged community service hours at Serendipity Equine Haven - the place where she was first introduced to horses helping in a therapy environment. This led to her involvement with the Equestrian Special Olympics in 2013.

2015 is when Alisha moved to the Permian Basin with her husband Kyle and her son Ayden. After hearing of her interest in volunteering with horses, a lady at church pointed Alisha in the direction of MCRC. Alisha began to volunteer which quickly turned into a job offer after 3 months of work with the children and horses. Her favorite part is seeing the horses help the children in their rehabilitation. Currently, Alisha is working on becoming a P.A.T.H. certified therapeutic riding instructor.

Aside from working with children at the center, Alisha works with the horses between therapy sessions at the MCRC barn. She loves the barn and being able to be outside. In her free time she works out, plays polo, camps, and does basically anything else that can be done with her family outdoors. , "I love that I'm able to help children and care for these horses - what more could I ask for? It feels like the country even though it's in town," she said.

Charlotte Doucet grew up in Iota Louisiana – better known as “Cajun Country”. She graduated from Iota High School. Her working career has always been in the “numbers world”. Once Charlotte and her wonderful husband Keith married, the Cajuns relocated to Redondo Beach California for 4 years then Walnut Creek California for 16 years, moving to Midland Texas in 2006. They were blessed with their daughter in 2000. After their daughter was born Charlotte’s working career came to a halt. She was a stay at home mom with her until 2011 when she returned to the working world and was blessed by the Lord to be employed with Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center. Charlotte was very familiar with Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center as her daughter was a client, prior to employment Charlotte was a volunteer, and she is a member of Children’s Service League.

Growing up Charlotte went to school with a special needs girl. Little did she know many years later the Lord would bless her & Keith with a special needs daughter.

Working here at Midland Children’s Rehabilitation Center is a blessing. I get to see the miracles. I get to see all the precious children. And witness “Changing Lives One Step at a Time.”

Gwen is originally from the North West (Washington to be specific) but has lived in 6 different states (Washington, Idaho, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York and finally Texas). After graduating from Rockland College with an Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts, she moved to Midland on what was meant to be a short term job assignment. She had been working as a retail manager for 12 years and came to help train a staff for her employer. God had other plans for Gwen. She met her husband Luis 4 months in and got “stuck” here. She came to MCRC by an answered prayer to leave retail and begin work in an environment that make a difference in the lives of children. She started as the receptionist where she learned the faces of MCRC families and now works as the center's Community Relations Administrator.

She is the partner between our families, the community and the center. Gwen's goal is to ensure MCRC families are fully aware of the programs it offers and that they are receiving the best quality of service possible. She helps them understand all the ways they are able to give back through volunteer work, donations and ways to become ambassadors for the center by equipping parents and families to share through their testimonies.

When not at work or church, Gwen can be found spending time with her husband Luis, step daughter Laila, and their 3 dogs (Tinkerbell, Knox, and Boots).
